Chinga celebrated his crown birthday on 14 th June 2011.  Congratulations!!!!  What a big day this was for Chinga, his owner, Helmut, and everybody who just fell in love with this dog over the last 14 years.

At the age of 14 Chinga is as fit as a fiddle and everyone still adores this extraordinary beautiful dog.

Although Chinga isn’t as famous as his litter brother, CH (SA) & CH (USA) Karoskloof Bayezana  Naka, he is an absolute super hero.  Chinga and his litter sister, Matata, went to stay with Helmut Schafer and Helga Vogt-Ladner in Windhoek (Namibia) in 1997

Helga spent some time in Port Alfred (Eastern Cape) at 43 Air School to do her commercial pilot’s license.   The two dogs soon learned to travel the long distance between Port Alfred and Windhoek on a regular basis as Helga did not want to leave them at home during her time at 43 Air School.

In 1998 a tragic accident happened  involving Helga, Chinga and Matata.  In the words of Helmut:

“On completion of her pilot training Helga and the dogs returned to Namibia on the 18 th June 1998.  Just south of Keetmanshoop Helga must have fallen asleep behind the steering wheel, left the road and overturned the vehicle.   She was killed instantly, - the dogs survived without a scratch. Chinga  was taken to the police station, where I could fetch him a couple of hours later, - Matata  was gone! We searched for her for three days! The Namibian Broadcasting Cooperation, the police, friends, family, neighboring farmers along the B1; everyone searched for Matata, - until we found her after three days at a livestock paddock on a farm only a few kilometers from the accident site.  Matata recovered from her shock rapidly and had a wonderful and fulfilling life. She got seriously ill with cancer  and died on 23 February 2007.”

As for Chinga?  Well, at 14 he is still giving the young Labrador the time of his life  Smile

Thank you Helmut for keeping in touch through all the years AND for providing such an excellent, caring home for this very special Karoskloof Rhodesian Ridgeback.
